Purpose of Role


The Senior Manager, Indirect Tax is responsible for leading the organization’s North America indirect tax strategy, compliance, and controversy. This role oversees all aspects of indirect taxation—including U.S. sales and use tax, Canadian GST/HST/PST, real property, personal property, and other transaction-based taxes—ensuring accurate reporting, timely filings, and adherence to regulatory requirements across jurisdictions. The position will be managing all audits and support business initiatives with indirect tax implications. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and a proactive approach to process improvement and cross-functional collaboration.




Your Impact



  • Lead the North America indirect tax function, including compliance, reporting, audit management, and planning across multiple jurisdictions

  • Oversee preparation and filing of North America indirect tax returns (i.e., sales & use, GST/HST/PST, etc.) and ensure timely and accurate submissions

  • Manage the company’s North America indirect tax monthly close process including reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and controls timely

  • Manage North America indirect tax audits and inquiries, working closely with external advisors and internal stakeholders

  • Develop and maintain a sustainable process for obtaining and managing the company’s exemption certificates within Vertex Certificate Manager

  • Partner with external advisors to manage the company’s real and personal property tax filings and payments

  • Develop and implement indirect tax strategies to optimize tax positions and ensure compliance including sales tax refund claims and real and personal property tax appeals and appraisals

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Retail, Ecommerce, Finance, Legal, IT, Procurement) to ensure tax implications are considered in business decisions

  • Partner with the Tax Technology Lead to drive automation and process improvements in North America indirect tax reporting and compliance systems

  • Research and provide guidance to internal teams on North America indirect tax matters

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and assess their impact on the business




Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in indirect tax, including management roles

  • Strong accounting and Microsoft Excel skills

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. sales & use tax and Canadian GST/HST/PST regimes

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. real and personal property concepts

  • Experience with indirect tax engines (e.g., Vertex)

  • Experience with large ERP systems and data reporting and automation tools (e.g., SAP/Oracle and Tableau/Power BI/Alteryx)

  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead cross-functional initiatives

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment




Workplace Location





  • Location: This individual must reside within commuting distance from our global headquarters in Baltimore, MD


  • Work Schedule: x4 days in office, Monday through Thursday

Base Compensation



  • $143,325.20-$179,156.50 USD

 


Most new hires fall within this range and have the opportunity to earn more over time. Initial placement within the salary range, however, is based on an individual's relevant knowledge, skills and experience for the position. UA is committed to helping our teammates succeed and advance in their careers. Base salary is only one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.
