APSU 2026 Summer Internship Program 

The Summer Internship Program, offered by the Career Success Center in partnership with Workforce Essentials and Workforce Development, is a 10-week paid summer immersive experience for rising juniors and seniors at Austin Peay State University (APSU) to receive meaningful, hands-on opportunities in local economic development, business innovation, and community-focused initiatives. Interns are placed within the Clarksville-Montgomery County region.

Selected students will have the option of living in campus housing, spend four days each week interning at a local employer site (Monday-Thursday), and also participate in additional career and professional development opportunities and site visits on Fridays. 

2026 Program Overview

Program Dates: The internship program begins on June 1 and ends on August 7, 2026. For more information and a detailed timeline, click here

Pay/benefits: Students will be paid a stipend of $5,000 over the course of the summer. Free on-campus housing will also be available. 
 

Program Eligibility 

The APSU Summer Internship Program is open to undergraduate students who are eager to gain real-world experience while contributing to the economic and community development of Montgomery County. 

To be considered, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: 

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time APSU student during the Spring 2026 semester. Spring 2026 graduates are not eligible.
  • Rising junior or senior status (Class of 2027 or 2028). 
  • Minimum GPA of 2.75.  
  • Demonstrate interest in community engagement, leadership, or economic development. 
  • 18-24 years old (due to grant funding).

 

Application Instructions 

Interested students should apply to the Summer Internship Program through Handshake by March 25, 2026. A list of required application materials is listed below. 

Each item must be included in order for your application to be complete and to be considered for the program. 

  1. Resume: Submit an updated resume highlighting your educational background, work experience, skills, and relevant accomplishments.
     
  2. Cover Letter/Letter of Interest: Write a compelling letter that explains your interest in the internship program and how your background aligns with the goals of our community initiatives. Provide a brief statement outlining what you hope to gain from the internship experience, what skills/qualities you will bring into the cohort, and your passion for community engagement, leadership, or economic development. 
    State your top three internship site options in your letter.

Please Note: Every effort will be made to match students to the internship site that best aligns with their interests and qualifications and employer needs. This may mean that a student is offered a placement outside of their tops internship site choices. 

Next Steps

Selected students will participate in final interviews with program leads to determine finalists and which internship opportunities are the best fit based on their interests and skill sets.
