Teacher - Art (West Boulevard Elementary), 2026-27
PURPOSE
This position is responsible for classroom instruction and training in elementary Visual Art education.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Develop and implement an engaging art curriculum for elementary students that includes drawing, painting, clay, and introductory techniques in various media.
- Create lesson plans aligned to state and national standards that introduce basic elements and principles of art while encouraging exploration, creativity, and self-expression.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment where students feel confident to try new ideas and explore their creativity.
- Maintain classroom materials, tools, and equipment; ensure a clean and safe art-making environment.
- Assess student progress through observation, projects, and portfolios, providing constructive feedback that helps students grow.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to integrate art projects with broader curriculum themes, supporting interdisciplinary learning.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and any areas for improvement.
- Stay current on best practices in art education and explore new activities and projects to keep lessons engaging.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes and communicates clear objectives to students for all lessons and units.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated both individually and collaboratively.
- Prepares for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, faculty meetings, and school events as required.
- Collaborates with administrators, colleagues, and parents in a positive and productive manner.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action, the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure while maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and appropriate manner.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) where applicable.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
