Pulsed Power Engineer/Scientist

Job Title: Senior Pulsed Power Engineer/Scientist

Science, Engineering, Management Solutions LLC (Sem-Sol) is a small business in Albuquerque, NM on the cutting edge of science and industry. Our skilled scientists, engineers and technicians specialize in directed energy and pulsed power systems and use the latest technology to develop innovative solutions for a range of Department of Defense agencies and commercial industries.

Almost all our projects use pulsed power as a driver for high-power microwave or charged particle beam systems. Typical voltages range from 300 kV to 1.5 MV with currents from a few  to 100s of  kA. Pulse repetition rates range from single-shot to several hundred pulses per second.

Our projects help transition Directed Energy from the laboratory to the warfighter. We specialize in making systems that are reliable and rugged enough to be demonstrated in a field environment for the Department of Defense. Our staff includes all the necessary disciplines to design, build, and test such systems. Our facilities include 25,000 sq. ft. high bay/laboratory/prototyping space. We use a rigorous engineering approach to predict performance before building and to create a reproducible result.

Sem-Sol is seeking a full-time Pulsed Power Engineer or Scientist to assist us with several Department of Defense projects. Our ideal candidate must have a combination of technical expertise and professionalism. We need someone who is self-motivated with strong organizational and communication skills.

 Duties will include:

  • Working with other scientists, engineers, technicians, and program managers to develop the pulsed power drivers for the next generation of High-Power Microwave and Charged Particle Beam systems.
  • Using a variety of simulation tools to design and predict the performance of pulsed power systems.
  • Presenting work at design reviews and conferences.
  • Comparing simulation results to experimental results.
  • Documenting experimental results, failures, and corrective actions.
  • Writing technical proposals.
